Which grind should I choose for my brew method?Updated 7 days ago
Choosing the right grind is the biggest step toward great coffee at home. The rule of thumb: the longer the coffee is in contact with water, the coarser the grind should be.
Brew method: grind
- French press: Coarse
- Cold brew: Coarse
- Chemex or drip coffee maker: Medium to medium-coarse
- Pour-over: Medium
- AeroPress: Medium-fine
- Espresso: Fine
- Single-use pods (K-Cup style): Between espresso and cone drip
Grind numbers vary a lot from one grinder to another, and a “#5,” for example, is typically pour-over, so we recommend choosing by brew method when you order. If you’re not sure, our Brew Guide has tested recipes for each method: https://larryscoffee.com/pages/brew-guide
